Browser Tune-up and Plug-in Check for PBU LMS

IMPORTANT!

Before you log-in to the LMS, please check to make sure that your PC is configured to properly access and take online training. It is very important that you verify each of the following steps before accessing the PBU LMS:

  1. Turn Off Pop-up Blockers
  2. Verify that you have the correct version of Java
  3. Verify that you have the latest version of Flash
  4. Verify that you have Adobe Acrobat Reader

You can run a quick Browser Test by clicking this link - look for any RED circles that indicate you need to make adjustments to your browser settings.

Follow the steps below as instructed. If you run into problems completing any of these steps, contact your local IT Help Desk, or email pbu@pbworld.com so that we can assist you.

Step 1: Turn off any pop-up blockers

Be sure to disable any pop-up blocking software from your browser. In Internet Explorer, click on Tools>Pop-up Blocker>Turn Off Pop-up Blocker.

If you have additional toolbars, such as the Google Toolbar or Yahoo Toolbar, be sure to ALWAYS ALLOW pop-ups from https://learning.syntrio.com/pbworld. Contact your regional IT Help Desk or email pbu@pbworld.com for additional support if necessary.

Step 2-Part 1: Remove conflicting and multiple versions of Java from your PC

Some computers have conflicting and/or multiple versions of Java installed. Please review your installed programs and REMOVE multiple versions of Java from your PC before updating to the latest version. This includes:

  1. IBM 32-bit Runtime Environment for Java 2 (JRE)
  2. Microsoft Java Virtual Machine (JVM)
  3. Java (any version below 6.x)

To find out if you have any conflicting Java versions installed on your PC, select Start>Settings>Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs. A new window will open listing all of the installed applications in alphabetical order.

Scroll down the list to locate IBM 32-bit Runtime and/or Microsoft Java Virtual Machine from the list of available programs.

Click Remove by each application to delete it from your PC. You should reboot your PC when you are finished, then proceed to the next step of verifying and updating Java.

If you do not see any conflicting Java applications from IBM or Microsoft, proceed with the download and installation of the current Java plug-in as directed below.

Step 2-Part 2: Install the latest version of Java

Open the following URL to verify if you have the right version of JAVA software on your pc:

http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp

Double-click on the large green button labeled VERIFY INSTALLATION.

If you do not have the latest version of Java, you will be prompted with instructions on how to upgrade your version of Java. Follow the on-screen instructions. If you run into problems, contact your local or regional IT Help Desk, or email pbu@pbworld.com.

Step 3: Update/Install the Adobe Flash Player

Please open the following URL to test the latest version of Adobe Flash software on your pc:

If prompted please allow the site to install/update your Flash plug-in. Contact your local or regional IT Help Desk or email pbu@pbworld.com for additional support if necessary.

Step 4: Verify/Install Adobe Acrobat Reader

Please verify that you have Adobe Acrobat installed on your PC. You will need either Acrobat Reader or Acrobat Professional. If you have neither version then please download and install Acrobat Reader from the following URL:
